Top 10 Online Poker Tips

Poker is a top card game played in casinos. There are many variations on the game, too, which lets you choose the poker game you like the best. One of the most popular is Texas Hold Em. There are some top tips that will make you a better player and help you to start winning at Texas Hold Em poker.

Tip #1 - It is important to understand that the best position in the game is the dealer. The dealer gets to see what everyone else does before making a move. With that in mind, when you are playing try to be as close to the dealer as possible so you are playing just before him.

Tip #2 - Start out small. Don't jump right in with the big dogs because you are sure to lose and probably won't learn much. Start at the low limit tables so you can play with others on your same skill level. This will allow you to learn the game without a lot of pressure.

Tip #3 - Keep it simple. Along the same lines as starting out small, you do not want to play too many hands when you are just starting out. You want to be able to focus on your hand and your game, so keep it simple with minimal hands.

Tip #4 - Watch other players. Part of learning the game is learning how others play. This is why tip #2 and #3 are so important. You want to be able to observe others and start to realize common signs of bluffing and get a feel for their playing styles. In the future this is something that will really help you to play a better game.

Tip #5 - Vary how you play. Others will be watching you, too, so make sure you are not stuck in one method of playing. Change things up. Surprise them by betting more often or by hanging back for a few hands. The idea is to keep other players guessing at what you will do next. This is something the professionals do all the time.

Tip #6 - Use bluffing wisely. Not everyone is good at bluffing, so know when you are doing bad and stop. You should, however, learn how to bluff because sometimes it can be used to your advantage. Practice bluffing and know when to use it and when not to use it.

Tip #7 - Don't drink and play. Alcohol will only dull your ability to think clearly. It will slow your reaction times and simply make you play a sloppy game.

Tip #8 - Be focused on the game. You need to stay tuned into what is happening and pay attention. Even when you go out, keep alert. Watch others and take mental notes.

Tip #9 - Try to learn more and keep learning. You should be reading about poker and learning as much as possible about the game. The more you know about poker, the better you can play the game.

Tip #10 - Learn from your mistakes. When you really make a bad move, remember it. When the game is over, analyze where you went wrong. Try to figure out what you should have done. Just as with everything else in life, your mistakes are a lesson to learn from.
