A Casino Glossary

One of the fun as well as important things to know about casino gambling is the terminology gamblers use and the definitions for this special code that players converse with each other in. The fun of learning and using this special terminology is the acceptance that comes from that knowledge and the importance of knowing and understanding this terminology might well be the difference between success and failure at the tables. What we are going to do is take a look at some of the more important words and phrases to know and define them for you.

Action: Action is the total amount of cash that a player wagers during his entire an entire session of gambling.

Arm: An arm is a craps player with the skill to change the conventional odds of the game, and that is why they are called an arm. Most dealers do not like these players.

Blinds: It is a bet in Texas Holdem that is forced upon two players at the start of every hand.

Bump: Bump means the same thing as a raise.

Camouflage: any action taken by a gambler to hide his or hers actions from personnel in a casino.

Check: Check means a chip. In poker check means to play a hand without betting.

Dollar Bet: Dollar bet means to wager $100.

Eyes in the Sky: This means surveillance cameras that are placed overhead with video capability.

Firing: Firing means a large money wager.

Floorman: A floorman is also known as a casino manager.

George: George is a player that tips well.

Hard Count: Hard count means to count real money rather than chips.

High Roller: A high roller is a gambler that wagers large sums of money per hand.

Inside Bet: A roulette term for placing a bet on the inside of the table on a a single or combination of numbers.

Joker: A joker is a wild card or is known as the 53rd card in the deck and is also called a Bug.

Lumpy: This means a dealer who does not deal smoothly.

Mechanic: A mechanic is a dishonest dealer.

Monkey: A monkey is a term used for a card that means a value of 10.

Nut: A nut is the amount of money a gambler wants to win before retiring from the game.

On Tilt: This means a bad reaction by a gambler after losing a hand.

Pigeon: A pigeon is an unskilled or naïve player.

Punter: This is another term for player or gambler.

Rake: This is a casino fee charged by the casino for each hand of poker played and is calculated by percentages.

Shiner: A reflective or mirrored surface used to view cards illegally.

Skin Game: Means a game where there is more than on person cheating at the table.

Tapping Out: this means that a player has lost it all and has to stop playing.

Vigorish: A casinos commission also known as juice or the vig.

These are just few of the phrases and terms used in a casino and good luck learning the rest of them as well.
