Roulette-The Basics

By Simon Skinner

When you find an online casino that offers Roulette, many people have a hard time understanding more than red or black and even or odd, when it comes to betting. The game of Roulette is pretty simple, the dealer spins the wheel and the ball lands in a certain slot which corresponds to a spot on the board. It is one of the easier online casino games to learn, but involves luck more than strategy, sometimes.

Of course, everybody in the red/black or even/odd category loses if the ball ends up on the single or double zero. Most Roulette wheels in Vegas have gone to using single and double zero spots, but some of them still offer Single Zero Roulette wheels, which cuts the odds of the house taking everybody’s bets. Some of the online casino websites also offer single zero games.

If you are going to play online casino games, knowing how the betting goes can be the most important part. Your odds will be equally split when you are playing the red/black or the odd/even strategy, although you might see trends either way from time to time. Everybody loses if it lands on the single zero or double zero spots, except those that bet straight up on those numbers.

Many players that pick individual numbers pick out favorite numbers that are a birthday or other special number. The higher the odds against the bet, the more it pays out. In other words, if you play red/black or even/odd, chances are you will win one out of two times, unless the ball lands in the house or zero spots. These payout 1 to 1.

If you are playing a single number, then the odds are much greater against you hitting that number, but the payoff is much greater if you do. This is known as a “straight up” play, and it pays 35 to 1 if you win. You can also bet on the single zero or the double zero to come up, as well.

The outer edges of the Roulette board have various spots, like 1-18 and 19-36, which means you are betting on a number between those to come up and it pays 1 to 1, unless the single or double zero hits, and then you lose.

One column bets, you are placing a bet in the 2 to 1 box, which means your payout is 2 to 1 if a number in that column comes out. From there, you can bet the boxes that have 1st 12, 2nd 12 or 3rd 12, and those are called dozen bets that mean you think one of those dozen numbers will come out and if they do, you get a 2 to 1 payout.

Six numbers, trios, splits and corners mean that you are betting particular numbers to come up in those groupings. These are a little more complicated and you should practice at an online casino that lets you use play money for these strategies to see how they work.

Roulette is not offered at all online casino websites, and it is one of the online casino games that are fairly easy to play, but involves more luck than strategy.
